Canadian Expressionist
Landscape Painter

Vern Simpson lives on South Pender Island, one of the southern Canadian Gulf Islands, located just across the border from the American San Juan Islands. To find out more about the two Pender Islands, and what's currently happening on the islands, browse the extensive Community web site.

Traditionally farming on the rocky Pender Islands has been limited to small sheep and cattle farms with folks growing their own veggies. These days gardening and farming reflects the benefits of the Mediterreanean climate, including the growing of garlic at Charman Farms and Vern's own sub-tropical paradise.

The Gulf Islands attract folks practising alternative lifestyles, building methods and health practices. Amonst these is Shelley Easthope, Reiki master and practitioner of related fields such as shiatsu.

One of the largest record album collections in British Columbia can be found in a small geodisic dome on North Pender. The online A-Z Used Records lists many of the albums available.

If you decide you'd like to visit the Penders there are many choices of resorts, vacation rentals and B&Bs. A few favourites are: Silly Hill B&B and Hummingbird Hollow.
